    Capacity assessment of SACCOS: The case of SACCOS in Kinondoni Municipality

    1. Research problem This study was carried out in order to make an assessment of the capability of savings and credits Co-operatves Societies (SACCOS) in delivering financial services to their members. 2. Methodology used A case study of Kinondoni Municipality involving four SACCOS was carried on to assess the status of the SACCOS. 3. Findings Our study revealed that SACCOS have weak financialbase in terms of both capital, and deposits/savings. Lack of strong strategies and narrow product range was found to be associated with this week financial base. The study further revealed weakness in members’ participation in decision making/ meeting attendance . We also found that computers are not utilized as a typewriter and not a means of decision making 4.Conlusion From our research findings we concluded to that, in general SACCOS still have weak capacity in ensuring reliable financial services to their members 5.Recommendations We recommends SACCOS to sensitive their members to acquire more shares and make more deposits and savings so as to strengthens their financial base; to widen their product range by introducing new ones; to review their employment policy so that them to secure more competent employees; to enrich their meeting absenteeism control mechanism and to invest more on MIS in both human and equipment.
