(University of Dar es Salaam, 2018) Biboze, Said Mussa
The major intention of this research was to explore the impact of passive fire safety protection application into the building design and construction in Tanzania. The research involved 65 respondents whereby data for the study were collected mainly by using questionnaire and interviews. Data were analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) and presented in different forms like frequency, percentage, histogram and bar charts. The research findings noted that the communities were aware of the passive fire safety protection measures are applied into the building designs and construction in Tanzania though the level of application was low. Several challenges were determined pertaining to the application of passive fire safety protection measures into building designs and constructions in Tanzania including lack of management support and lack of fire rescue experts. The research findings also noted that creating more awareness to the community, but also using technological advances fire rescues is inevitable. Following the requirements from the first specific objective of this study, the research findings revealed that, respondents’ awareness level on passive fire safety protection measures into the building design and construction was adequate but the extent of integrating or applying it was low as a result of lack of experts, low technology and lack of commitment from the top management, higher costs of its application, lack of training, and lack of employees’ involvement. The research also revealed that most of the problems were found to be more managerial and financial than technical in nature. It was recommended that the government through responsible ministry should develop a strong system for enforcement of fire and rescue Act and regulations at organizational levels
