Gynaecologic and obstetric cases and commentaries
(University of Dar es Salaam, 1997) Bethuel, William Peter
This dissertation is submitted in partial fulfillment for the award of the degree of Master of Medicine (M.Med) of the University of Dar es Salaam. It consists of three parts; the first and second parts consist of ten gynaecologic and ten obstetric cases which are a few of the many conditions managed by the author. Standard management has been followed unless where facilities were limited. At the end of each case short commentaries are written in form of comments, criticism and a short review of literature on salient features regarding the condition presented. The third part is a long obstetric commentary which is a research work done over a period of 4 months on maternal and perinatal outcome in twin gestation at Muhimbili Medical Centre, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. In this study it was found that maternal and perinatal complications were significantly higher among twin compared to singleton deliveries. Factors contributing to increased antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum complications in twin pregnancies are discussed and ways of reducing these to minimum are suggested.
