The impact of selected factors on sales performance of moneymaker pumps: the case of kickstart Tanzania
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2011) Baraza, Innocent
The objective of this study was to examine the impact of selected factors on sales performance of the MoneyMaker Pumps. The study assessed the present status of sales focussing on the good performing, poor performing, intermediate regions as well as the challenges facing the market place. The study focused on improving the process and the quantity of sales as well as exploring new opportunities in unreached potential areas. A Descriptive Research Design was employed to address the above objectives. The study collected both quantitative & qualitative data from a sample of 103 respondents through the use of Structured questionnaire that made up of both open and closed questions. The main approach of data collection were interviews and direct observation. The study was designed as sample survey in which ten regions covered as representative sample. Purposeful sampling procedure was applied in which ten regions ranked by Kickstart Organization as good performing, intermidiate and poor performing were visited. It took the Researcher 30 days to accomplish the field exercise. Upon finishing the field survey, the raw data was cleaned and coded before entered to spread sheet and then subjected to analysis by using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) The study found out that the level of awareness of the MoneyMaker pumps is still low especially in interior villages of Tanzania including some important vegetable growing areas. However the study found out that Kickstart has many more opportunities to be used as entry point and be in position to sell more pumps if the views of the different stakeholders will be taken in to account. At the end, the researcher managed to identify more than 50 new potential areas in which farmers are engaged in vegetable growing but still irrigating using buckets. Most of these areas are least or completely unaware of what Money Maker Pump is all about.
