(University of Dar es Salaam, 2011) Angolile, Afwilile Mwambene
This research aimed at looking on the massive investment on IT by the government MDAs, in relation to the security vested on them, as it has been seen that the measures taken to implement IS security creates a doubt. So, the research conducted was to see how IS security was taken as important aspect in their organizations. The main objective was to evaluate the perceived importance of Management Information System Security in organizations. The research focused on facts gathered from collected data, deduced from various theories and then formulated hypotheses to be tested, the positivist philosophy was used. The research was carried in three organizations, namely; Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, and Mzumbe University. A sample of 150 persons was given a likert scale type questionnaires was used involving CEOs, CFOs, Directors, HoDs, Lecturers, Deans, and operational staff, of which 131 responded, and the results were analyzed by the use of Software Package for Statistical Sciences (SPSS). The research findings from both primary and secondary data reviewed that; key issues of IS security were not addressed in their corporate strategic plans, the organizations could not maintain the BC and DR plans, no policy specifically for IS security, and the budget proportions in respect of IS security is not sufficient. Hence there still a need for the MDAs to enhance IS security, by the organizations maintaining BC and DR plans, improving staff IT competencies, and developing their regulations and guidelines benchmarking the IS security process, this should involve management participation.
