Gender roles in adaptation to impacts of climate change a case of Mbigiri and Engusero agricultural communities in Kiteto district
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2015) Alexander, Consolatha
This study examined liquid waste management mechanism and their effect on the environment in Kipawa, Ilala Municipality. Household interviews, key informants, soil and water sample analysis complemented each other in addressing the study objectives. Qualitative information was analysed using content analysis while the quantitative information was presented in tabular format after laboratory analysis. Finding from the study has shown that Re-use, Reduce and Recycle (3Rs) mechanism are partly used in Kipawa area and there is an environmental concern to soil, water and air due to pollution from both industrial areas and residents. There is also poor or low environmental protection law enforcement. The study therefore recommends that Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and companies should work with the community in introduction of innovative mechanism of liquid waste disposal that are profitable and sustainable and liquid waste management stakeholders such as National Environment Management Council (NEMC), Water Basin Offices (WBO) and DAWASCO should enhance frequent routine monitoring as required by the law. The study also recommends that environment education policy and implementation fund should be made enhanced to all liquid waste producing stakeholders.
