(University of Dar es Salaam, 2013) Abdul, Zahra Mahmoud
The aim of this study was to assess challenges which face exporters of non-tradition product in Tanzania. The population under this study included the exporters and institutions dealing with the organic fruits and vegetables. The study used questionnaires in collecting data from respondents. The analysis of data was done through the use of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS ). The findings of the study revealed that fruits and vegetables from Tanzania were rich in quality; but the market strategies used, specifically value addition, pricing system, frequency of promotion, transportation modes, distribution channels and measure taken to reduce risk are not effective to win and retain customers in foreign markets. Additionally, the study found out that there were barriers in the business. These barriers include processing facilities and technologies, unsuitable pricing policies and services, and poor infrastructure. From the findings of the study, the study has offered a number of recommendations which will enable the sector to grow and exert influence in the competitive global market.
