In Tanzania, there have been claims that mine are causing potential risks to the community living near to the mines. However, most of the mines operate in rural areas where there is little access to information. Similarly, the existing environmental communication tools in rural areas are not effective. Therefore, this study was designed with the objective of assessing environmental risks communication tools in mining industry, specifically Golden Pride Mine (GPM) in Lusu Ward Nzega District Tabora –Tanzania. In order to achieve the research objectives, a survey questionnaire was designed and supplied to 150 residents of 3 villages located around the Mine. Also, unstructured interviews were conducted to 15 officers from mining and government officers. The findings of this survey is that, the existing environmental risks communication tools/ channels at GPM are village meetings, training and mass media. The category of interpersonal communication channel is most preferred environmental risks communication channel at GPM. The survey result showed untimely information delivery as the major problems in accessing environmental risks information at GPM. Therefore, it is recommended that interpersonal communication channels and the participatory approach model should be used for environmental risks communication at GPM.
